Steps to follow when working with superceded parts
Parts Superseding process
There are two steps that need to be performed when working with superseded parts:
- Mark the outdated part as superseded.
- Connect the new part to the old part.
Marking the Superseded Parts can be done through:
<Part Sales & Management> - <Part Inventory>

To do this, perform the following steps:
- From the DealerVu Start screen select Part Sales and Management from the Department menu
- Click on the Part Inventory Link
- On the Part Inventory Filter enter the part number that is being superseded and click on the Refresh button

- Double click the Superseded part number to get to the Part Detail screen.

- You will need to check the Superseded Check Box as indicated by the red arrow above. This will mark the part as being superseded.
The next step is to connect the new part number to the old part number. There are two ways to accomplish this:
- Create the entry in the Part Detail window under the Reference Part Tab
- Create the Entry from the Cross Reference Part Management window under the Tools menu on the Part Inventory filter window.
To create the entry in the part Detail window under the Reference Part Tab, perform the following steps:

- From the Part Detail window where you marked the part as being superseded - click on the Reference Part Tab, indicated by the red arrow below:

- This will open the Reference Part tab where you can enter the part that is replacing the superseded part. To enter the new part click on the Insert Item icon this will open the Part Search window.
- You will then either search for an existing part to supersede the original part to or add in a brand new part. Once the part has been selected or added new the part will appear under the “Reference Part” screen and your “supercession” is now linked.
- Once you have selected the new part that is replacing the superseded part in the Reference Part Tab you have created a “Cross Reference” between the two parts.
When you look up the Superseded part number on any of the part search screens you will see something similar to this:

To create the Entry from the Cross Reference Part Management window under the Tools menu on the Part Inventory filter window, perform the following steps:

Note: If the original part has an available In -Stock quantity then the original part would be added to the invoice, but would allow the user to click on the + sign on the Select part window” to see the superseded part number as well.
- On the Part Inventory Filter widow select Tools from the Tools Bar menu. Then select Cross Reference Part Management from the Tools menu. This will open the Cross Reference Part Management window, as shown below:

- The Cross Reference Part Management window is separated into 3 panes.
- The first pane is located in the top left corner of the window it is where you enter the part information that you want to build the cross reference to (the superseded part).
- The second pane is in the lower half on the left side. This is the result pane. It will list all the parts that match the criteria that you entered into the first pane.
- The third pane is where you add or remove the cross reference parts
- If you were to add a cross reference to the part # 45000-11VISA-A, you would enter that part number in the part Number field of the top left pane and then click the Find button. A window, like the one shown below, will appear:

- To add a Cross Reference to this part click on the Add Part icon. This will open the Part Select window where you will enter the part number that is replacing the superseded part number and then click the Refresh button.

- With the part on the Select part window you can click OK to create the cross reference.
- Then when adding the superseded part to a Parts Invoice or to a Service Order invoice, because the superseded part has “0” In-Stock, the new part is automatically added.

Note: If the original part has an available In -Stock quantity then the original part would be added to the invoice, but would allow the user to click on the + sign on the Select part window” to see the superseded part number as well.
